Overview

Apparently, NALSO acts as Israel's southern aerospace exit point, however - NALSO also acts as Egypt's aerospace entry point. Due to that reason - missions to the Red Sea, that included NALSO as an entry point to the Red Sea - were rejected.

To overcome that - Israeli AIS recommended switching from IFR to VFR within Israeli aerospace (following coordination with Israeli AF) and continuing as a military flight bypassing NALSO. This can be done by including "OAT VFR" in your flight plan, at the beginning of your VFR leg and "GAT IFR" to switch back to using standard routes at the completion of the patrol.

The term Operational Air Traffic (OAT) is applied in Europe to all flights which do not comply with the provisions stated for General Air Traffic (GAT) and for which rules and procedures have been specified by appropriate national authorities. Most OAT flights are operated by military agencies.

Note:

  • If mission extends to neighboring aerospace - please include them when addressing your FPL (i.e. OBBSZPZX OBBSZTZX OEDFZAZX OEDFZPZX OBBBZQZX OOMMZQZX  OMEAZQZX)
